Help young women change the world

girl !mpact

I recently attended the launch of a new Canadian nonprofit called girl !mpact, which has the laudable goal of helping young girls around the world to help each other to succeed in life and create positive social change. Their first task? They've chosen 12 girls (pictured above) from schools in Scarborough, Ont., to be trained, coached and mentored through 2009 with the goal of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. In turn, the girls will be working to raise $50,000 for UNICEF's Kenyan girls' scholarship program, so that 10 of their Kenyan peers can attend secondary school—and, in turn, learn to help other girls succeed.

So how can you help? Buy a girl !mpact T-shirt (50% of proceeds go to the program) or donate directly to the UNICEF program and help girl !mpact reach its fundraising goal—and feel good about participating in a social chain reaction with positive consequences.
