5 new healthy salad dressings

Renee's Wellness Salad Dressings

Raise your hands: How many of you have spent far too long in the salad dressing aisle searching for that perfect dressing that will not only be good for you (and not pile too many calories on that healthy salad), but taste great, too?

Canadian brand Renée's Gourmet has just released five new varieties of their Wellness Dressing, all of which are trans fat free, contain prebiotics and carry the Health Check symbol from the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There are three yogurt-based flavours—Peppercorn Ranch, Cucumber & Dill and Roasted Garlic Caesar—and two viniagrettes, Tuscan Garden and Pomegranate Blueberry with Açaí. All are low in calories—the Roasted Garlic Caesar, for instance, weighs in at 45 calories per 15 mL, and the viniagrettes have only 3 or 5 calories per 15 mL—and best of all, the ingredients label doesn't read like a chemistry class. Try them on one of our collection of 20 healthy salad recipes, or on your own favourite combo of fresh veggies.

I'm going to keep my eye out for these next time I'm at the grocery store—I've been looking for some new flavours to spice up my salads. What about you? Have you tried these? What do you think?

  • I've tried the Pomegranate flavour- my son loves it! I didn't care for the Tuscan Garden. My husband tried the Ranch tonight, and enjoyed it too.

    Enjoy!

  • I haven't tried them yet, but I do try and eat healthy and low fat foods. Will probably try the roasted garlic first, a I love garlic and know it's great for your health.

  • Unfortunately i haven't had an opportunity to try any of the dressings other than the Roasted Garlic. The reason? I can't get enough of the Roasted Garlic dressing! I generally have at least one salad a day, often two. The Roasted Garlic follows me everywhere. It's just awesome.

  • I am lactose intolerant, so cannot eat any of the yogurt-based dressings. I was disappointed that they discontinued the caesar that was gluten and lactose-free. I wll try the two that are not yogurt-based, however. Thanks for the tip.

  • I am disappointed they discontinued their old Wellness flavours and replaced them with these. Fig Balsamic was a staple in my diet and I used nothing but the Wellness line on my salad. It seems they've taken a new approach to "healthy" with this line. I liked the flax oil, lactose-free, preservative-free approach.

I've tried Tuscan Garden and it's not bad. I think I'll have to stay away from the creamy dressings, though.
